Security & Privacy

Do you store my card information?

No, we never store your card information. This is our most important privacy principle. When you enter your card details:

  • Card numbers are processed in memory and immediately discarded
  • Security codes (CVV) are used only for the balance check and never saved
  • We don't keep logs that associate card numbers with IP addresses
  • Balance results are displayed once and not stored in our database
Is my connection secure?

Yes! All connections to VanillaBalance are secured with 256-bit SSL encryption (the same security used by banks). You'll see a padlock icon in your browser's address bar, indicating a secure connection. We also:

  • Use HTTPS exclusively (no unencrypted HTTP)
  • Implement HSTS to force secure connections
  • Regularly update security certificates
  • Monitor for security vulnerabilities continuously
What information do you collect?

We collect minimal, anonymous information for service improvement:

  • We DO collect: Anonymous usage statistics, browser type (for compatibility), and aggregated metrics
  • We DO NOT collect: Card numbers, security codes, personal information, or individual balance data

See our complete Privacy Policy for detailed information.

Troubleshooting

My balance isn't showing up. What should I do?

If your balance isn't displaying, try these steps:

  1. Double-check your card number - Ensure all 16 digits are entered correctly
  2. Verify the security code - The 3-digit code on the back of the card
  3. Check card activation - Some cards need to be activated before first use
  4. Try a different browser - Sometimes browser extensions can interfere
  5. Clear browser cache - Old cached data might cause issues

If problems persist, the card may be expired or blocked. Contact the issuer using the number on the back of your card.

The balance shown is incorrect. Why?

VanillaBalance displays the balance provided by the card issuer's systems. If you believe the balance is incorrect:

  • Recent transactions - Pending purchases may not be reflected immediately
  • Activation fees - Some cards have activation fees deducted
  • Expired cards - Check the expiration date on your card
  • Time lag - Some issuers update balances with a delay

For balance disputes, contact the card issuer directly using the customer service number on the back of your card.

I'm getting an error message. What does it mean?

Common error messages and their solutions:

Error Likely Cause Solution
Invalid Card Number Wrong number entered Check and re-enter the 16-digit number
Card Not Found Card not activated or expired Activate card or check expiration date
Service Unavailable Issuer system down Try again in 15-30 minutes
Can I check expired gift cards?

You can attempt to check expired cards, but results may vary:

  • Recently expired cards - May still show the final balance
  • Long-expired cards - May be purged from issuer systems
  • State laws - Some states require unclaimed funds to be turned over

If your card has expired with remaining balance, contact the issuer immediately. Some may offer replacement cards or refunds.
